Open is a relatively compact and elegant, contemporary collection of soft seating, with chair and sofa sharing a formed steel rod, base-frame
aesthetic. Angular and striking, they lend a physical lightness to the appeal of the design. The moulded seat shells and cushions with ‘bull nosed’ edge feature, economic detailing and tailored upholstery, provide great comfort, precise shape, a simple pleasing form and visual
slenderness. Additionally, the chair can be specified with a headrest and mounted on an equally striking, polished, ‘four-star’ cast aluminium swivel base. This slender aluminium base also supports a range of tables, using a choice of tops from round to more sophisticated ‘super ellipses’, to complement the seating.
Luke Pearson and Tom Lloyd who first met while studying Furniture Design and Industrial Design respectively at London's prestigious Royal College of Art, did not form theirmulti award winning product and furniture design consultancy until 1997, having first spent a number of years working independently of each other for other highly aclaimed design studios.
Both derrive great joy and excitement from what they do, the suprises that they find along the way; materials and processes; team working; users and places; and pursuing the essential. They have created stunning solutions for a variety of international clients, including manufacturers, consumer brands, and government organisations.
Soul designed by PearsonLloyd, has been awarded a number of prestigious industry awards including a Silver in the 2007 Best of NeoCon Awards, seating stacking category and a 2008 IF Design Award. Both recognise design excellence and distinction and carry international credibility.
